Bradford Catholic Youth Choir provide outstanding vocal opportunities for young singers across the Bradford and Keighley area – could someone you know join one of our fabulous groups?
As part of the Diocese’s award-winning Schools Singing Programme, and supported by St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College, BCYC are busy bringing the joy of singing back into young people’s lives after the disruption caused by the pandemic. The three choirs – Junior, Boys and Girls Choirs – kept rehearsing online during lockdown and have enjoyed many wonderful opportunities in the past; these have included broadcast the Christmas Day Mass on BBC One, touring to Rome and singing for Mass at St Peter’s and the other Papal basilicas, a partnership with the internationally-renowned Gabrieli Consort, winning medals at the World Choir Games in Latvia, and giving numerous BBC radio broadcasts. Singing has proven health and academic benefits, and our rehearsals are friendly and engaging, led by expert musicians.
‘My experiences with the Bradford Catholic Boys’ Choir have shaped me as a person. Growing up in inner-city Bradford with limited options, the choir gave me the confidence to aspire to more. From singing vespers at the local church to performing on TV in front of millions, each experience has proven invaluable in my life journey and I will continue to draw on the lessons of resilience and perseverance gained here as I move on to my next chapter at the University of Oxford.’ Joshua Chima, former choir member
If your child, or someone you know, is interested, the choir are running open rehearsals to give children the opportunity to try out the groups. All rehearsals currently take place at St Walburga’s Church, Shipley, and through the generous support of the schools, Diocese and other funders it is FREE to attend. No previous experience of singing is necessary!
Places must be booked in advance via office@dioceseofleedsmusic.
