The North Yorkshire choirs are our most recently established family of choirs. Places are offered to children in years 3-6 who have shown potential and enthusiasm in the weekly whole-class singing sessions we offer in schools across the area. The choirs offer them the opportunity to benefit from many musical, religious and social opportunities, building on what they learn in school to enable them to sing Mass and perform in concerts. Membership is free but we ask that families consider making a monthly donation to our Music Fund if they are able.
The choirs are modelled after our programme’s existing, award-winning youth choirs in Leeds, Huddersfield and Bradford, all of which regularly perform on national TV and radio, have featured on best-selling CDs and provide brilliant performing opportunities, including national and foreign tours. They are directed by our Choral Director for North Yorkshire, Amy Howe, assisted by our other staff.
The North Yorkshire Choirs rehearse weekly in term time and regularly sing for Masses and concerts in parishes throughout the area, as well as at the annual Diocesan Choir Festivals at Leeds Cathedral.
If our team of Choral Directors do not visit your child’s school and they are interested in joining one of our choirs, please contact us at office@dioceseofleedsmusic.org.uk or 0113 244 8634 to arrange an audition.
