St Maximilian Kolbe Children’s Choir

Launched in January 2019, St Maximilian Kolbe Children’s Choir is based in Beeston, two miles south of Leeds city centre. The choir comprises local children from St Anthony of Padua and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary Schools who love singing and show great vocal and musical potential. The choir is part of our internationally-acclaimed Schools Singing Programme and provides the highest quality musical training with opportunities to perform and sing services in the St Maximilian Kolbe Parish Churches and Leeds Cathedral.

The Director of our Schools Singing Programme, @thomas_leech, writing for @ArtsPro on equality in cathedral music. 'Achievement in a cathedral choir and the subsequent fruits of this should be available without regard to social circumstance.'

We're delighted that our YouTube singing sessions are featured on - lots of fabulous resources for school and home music on this great website. Excellent work from @MusicTeachers_ @ISM_music and @musicmarkuk #CanDoMusic

And we're back in schools too - our wonderful Choral Director team have had a fabulous week working with all these wonderful young voices! #CanDoMusic

Some of our choirs are slowly returning to in-person rehearsal after months of online sessions! Here are the cathedral girls, singing together for the first time in nearly 7 months! 🎶🎶🎶

It should not disappear but it needs to grow and adapt, like the amazing work by @DOLMusic in Leeds, and @ward_lw in Liverpool.

My voice is changing right now so I’m in this range where I can sing quite high or low, so I can either sing treble or tenor right now! When I sing it gives me more confidence in school and everywhere. The whole choir feels like a community and you get to meet lots of new people as well. My favourite pieces are some of the Glorias, I also like singing in other languages. 13 years old, Leeds Cathedral Senior Boys Choir ... See MoreSee Less

I feel happy because it just lets all your emotions out. I like singing. My favourite thing about choir is singing, and I’m really excited for the BBC broadcast. We’ve been rehearsing for it since September, since we came back from the holidays. If you feel nervous about singing imagine it’s only you in the room and you’re singing to yourself. When I joined I was really nervous, but my sister was in the choir (she’s in Seniors now) and she helped me to sing. 10 years old, Bradford Junior Choir ... See MoreSee Less
