September 8th, 2008 - New Choral Directors
New Choral Directors

The Diocese of Leeds this September welcomes two new members of staff to it's music department.  As the largest Catholic youth singing programme in the UK, the Diocese of Leeds each week works with over a 1000 children across West Yorkshire.  The Diocese works in partnership with Diocesan schools and churches to enable young people to access high level choral singing and repertoire.

A former chorister at Westminster Cathedral and Choral Scholar of Kings College, Cambridge, Keith Roberts brings to the Diocese a wealth of choral experience having sung and trained some of the finest choirs in the country.  In addition, Keith is internationally known as a composer and arranger of music.  He will be leading choral singing in primary schools in Huddersfield, Keighley and Bradford.  In addition, Keith has been appointed Director of Music at St Patrick's Church, in Huddersfield where he will shortly be founding a new boys' choir.

Born and educated in Leeds, Sally Egan has performed as a solo soprano all over the world under the baton of many leading conductors.  Sally has a particular specialisation in teaching singing to children - prior to her appointment here in Leeds, she was the vocal coach/ teacher to the choristers of Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral.  Sally will be visiting primary schools in Leeds to deliver in a choral singing curriculum in partnership with ‘Sing Up' the governments new singing initiative aimed at ensuring that every primary school puts singing at the heart of the curriculum.
