Leeds Cathedral has recently acquired a new practice organ, formerly part of the Organ Department of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. This small instrument, built by J. W. Walker & Sons, will offer even greater variety and flexibility for those learning as part of the new Diocesan Organists Training Programme.
David Pipe, Director of the Organists Training Programme, commented, “We’re very fortunate to have obtained such a high-quality teaching and practice instrument for the Programme. Walker practice organs are highly sought-after, and we’re very grateful to David Wood Pipe Organ Builders in Huddersfield for their generosity in removing and installing it. Though this instrument is compact, it will be invaluable for teaching new organ students about pedalling and for helping develop their coordination when playing on more than one keyboard.”
The Organists Training Programme now comprises over twenty-five students, both children and adults, in centres across Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Harrogate.
