April 3rd, 2016 - Exciting New Appointment for Cathedral Organ Scholar George Ford
Exciting New Appointment for Cathedral Organ Scholar George Ford

The Team-Rector of Boston is pleased to announce the appointment of George Ford to the full time post of Music Director of the Parish of Boston. Commenting on this new appointment Alyson has said:

George has accepted this new and exciting post for the Parish of Boston. We know he will work to enhance the Parish’s historic reputation for an excellent choral worship offering, work within local schools, and develop an integrated network of choirs in the community. At his interview we were excited by his musical skills, entrepreneurial flair, enthusiasm and obvious ability to initiate and carry forward music projects for the church and town. George will join a team of enthusiastic people who care deeply for the people of Boston and the mission and ministry of the Church here.

George Ford began learning the organ at the age of 13 and quickly progressed to becoming Organ Scholar at St Thomas of Canterbury Parish Church in his hometown of Brentwood, Essex. He read music at the University of Huddersfield specialising in organ performance studying under Dr Graham Cummings. Alongside his studies George held the position of Organ Scholar at Leeds Cathedral where he worked in the UK’s largest cathedral music department. Currently he is completing a master’s degree at the University of Leeds in Music and Management. George enjoys working with children and young people, as he believes it is important to inspire the next generation of church musicians. He is very much looking forward to coming and joining the Parish of Boston community and is especially excited about continuing the musical traditions at St Botolph’s. George believes that the parish has tremendous potential to host prosperous music programme that encourages people from all walks of life to get involved.

Benjamin Saunders (Music Director of Leeds Cathedral) has said:

George has made an invaluable contribution to the musical life of the Diocese of Leeds and its Cathedral as an organist, choir trainer and team member over the past two years. I am sure that working in the UK's largest singing programme will have given him solid foundations on which to build an outstanding new community choral initiative in Lincolnshire and to realise the tremendous vision of the clergy and parishoners in the Parish of Boston.

The Bishop of Grantham will preside at a Service of Thanksgiving followed by lunch on the 24th of July 2016 at 10:30am.
