March 12th, 2013 - Bradford Catholic Girls' Choir broadcast on BBC Radio 4
Bradford Catholic Girls' Choir broadcast on BBC Radio 4

Bradford Catholic Girls' Choir broadcast the BBC Radio 4 Daily Service on Tuesday 12th March. This is the BBC's longest running programme and is transmitted live each day from Emmanuel Church in Didsbury. The service is usually led by a professional choir, but occasionally choirs are invited to lead the music, so it was a great privilege for 26 youngsters from Bradford to be able to use their musical talents to a listenership of around 200,000 people.

The rehearsal began at 8.00am in Didsbury, meaning a 6.00am departure by coach. Breakfasts were eaten on the way, and the girls slept on the way back to Bradford.

The theme of the service was 'The wilderness sings' and featured the hymns 'I heard the voice of Jesus say' and 'Hail to the Lord's anointed' in arrangements by the choir's director, Thomas Leech. The anthem 'With joy you will draw water' was composed by a former Director of Music at Leeds Cathedral, Stuart Thompson. Choir members are drawn from schools participating in the Schools Singing Programme and the choir is supported by St. Joseph's Catholic College and Holy Family Catholic School, Keighley.

You can listen to the service (available until Tuesday 19th March) here
