June 20th, 2011 - Royal School of Church Music Awards
Royal School of Church Music Awards

12 boys and girls from the Huddersfield Boys and Girls Choirs were awarded their Royal School of Church Music Bronze awards last Sunday at a special service at Wakefield Cathedral.  They achieved these awards by passing exams earlier this year, where as well as singing and musicianship tests, they had to talk about the music and their role as choristers in their church.  Six of them achieved merit standard and two managed distinctions.

They were presented with their medals by Mgr. Moger at Wakefield - the first time singers from Catholic churches had entered RSCM awards in this area.  Needless to say, most of them are keen to start on Silver awards soon, and we hope lots more will take their Bronze awards in due course.
Also three boys from the boys' choir have been taking part in evensongs all over the country including York Minster and Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral as members of the auditioned RSCM Northern Cathedral Singers, and one, Philip Schweidler, has been invited to participate in the very elite RSCM Cathedral course in Peterborough this summer.  These achievements and awards are testament to the hard work and talent of the children, as well as the educational side of the Diocesan choral programme.
