Cathedral Boys and Adults Broadcast Monteverdi Missa a quattro voci on BBC Radio

The BBC's Radio 4 Sunday Worship programme was broadcast live from the Cathedral at 8.10am on the 15th May. It was a Mass for Vocations Sunday celebrated by Rev Mgr Philip Moger (Dean) and homily from the Rev Paul Grogan (Diocesan Vocations Director). The early broadcast made for an early start for the choir, with the warm up rehearsals taking place at 7.00am on the day.

The cathedral boy choristers and adult choirs sang Monteverdi sumptuous Missa a quattro voci with 'cello and chamber organ continuo. This mass was written for Monteverdi's choir at San Marco's Bascilica in Venice, and is relatively unknown by cathedral choirs in England. The pater noster was sung to an adapted setting by Rimsky Korsikov. The hymns were This Joyful Eastertide, The King of Love my Shepherd is, and Be Thou my Vision

The programme can be heard for the next week on i-player.

Director of Music: Benjamin Saunders; Organist and Assistant Director of Music: Christopher McElroy. Producer: Mark O'Brien.
