Top Male Voice Choir Award for Bradford Boys

Top Male Voice Choir Award for Bradford Boys

It's been a busy few weeks for the Bradford Boys' Choir and for two of its members in particular. Jake Street and Caisin Richards have both been selected to compete in the 'Vocal Solo (15 years and under)' category of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, where the Bradford Girls' Choir has enjoyed success in the past. Having taken second and third place in their respective classes at the Harrogate Festival in March, they took part in the Wharfedale Festival on Saturday, 15th May, where Jake won the 'Choristers (15 years and under)' category with a rendition of Mendelssohn's 'Hear my prayer' and Caisin came second in the 'Choristers (12 years and under)' category, singing Mervyn Cousins' setting of 'Ave Maria'.

Encouraged by these successes, the whole choir descended on Ilkley last Saturday, to see if they could pick up some silverware themselves. Not content with coming second in the 'Church Choirs' category, they made their way quickly down The Grove from Christ Church to King's Hall to try their luck in the 'Male Voice Choirs' open category and took first place with distinction, singing 'I am his child' by Moses Hogan and an arrangement of 'Goodnight Sweetheart', which they knew they could rely on to steal the audience's hearts, and they weren't disappointed. The adjudicator commented on the 'super variety of sound - splendid in all parts' in the first piece and said she had enjoyed the second so much that she had just sat back and listened and hadn't written anything. The mark sheet for that piece just said 'Praise x a lot here!! Splendid' and they were awarded first place with distinction.
