December 1st, 2008 - Two new BBC recordings in Bradford
Two new BBC recordings in Bradford

Following the success of broadcasting four hundred young singers from Bradford Catholic Schools in 2007 on BBC 1 flagship religion programme ‘Songs of Praise,' the BBC have once again returned to Bradford, this time to record two programmes for BBC Radio 2.

Four hundred children were chosen from the 23 catholic schools in Bradford and Keighley to participate in the recording. St Joseph's Church in Bradford was the chosen venue for the recording on account of its excellent acoustics, fine organ and large capacity.

Under the direction of Diocese of Leeds musicians Christopher Johns, Keith Roberts and Christopher McElroy, the children spent weeks learning the words and music of eight songs.  The repertoire ranged from plainsong (Creator of the stars of night) through to an inspired arrangement of the gospel song ‘Soon and Very Soon' made by Keith Roberts.

The songs will be broadcast on BBC R2's ‘Sunday Half Hour' programme on 7 December 2008 and 29 March 2009, both at 8.30pm.
