October 12th, 2017 - Masterclass with Professor Winfried Bönig, Organist of Cologne Cathedral

The Organists’ Training Programme was delighted to welcome Professor Winfried Bönig, Organist of Cologne Cathedral, to lead a masterclass on German organ music in St Robert’s, Harrogate, following his fantastic recital in Leeds Cathedral. Performers worked on music by Bach, Bruhns and Lübeck, and were treated to an improvisation by Prof Bönig during his talk on work as a Cathedral Organist in Germany.

David Pipe, Director of the Organists’ Training Programme, commented, “We were thrilled to welcome an organist and teacher of Prof Bönig’s international standing, and he gave a memorable class with some wonderful insight for players and listeners alike. We’re looking forward to continuing our masterclass series in 2018, including a class led by Dr Friedhelm Flamme from the Detmold Academy in Germany.   A video of the masterclass can be found here.
