Notes on the use of the scores
Alleluia except in Lent when Praise to you, O Christ is sung.
The Preface Dialogue, Doxology and Amen are usually sung to the tones from the Missal.
For the Memorial Acclamation, the celebrant intones The mystery of faith from the Missal tone. The congregation can respond with one of the four responses in the missal.
Ordinary of the Mass
Mass XVI is short and suitable for weekdays.
Mass XVIII is suitable for Advent or Lent.
Mass XI (Orbis Factor) is suitable for Ordinary Time.
Mass VIII (De Angelis) is often sung, and tends to be best known by older generations. It is considerably more complex however than many of the other chants.
Credo I is suggested instead of Credo III as it is far simpler musically.
Some English settings of the Mass are available, although there are few noteworthy examples. Caution needs to be further exercised as the text does not always conform to the approved translation. These vernacular settings must usually be purchased.
